different than の意味と使い方
「different than」は、意味的には「different from」と同じです。
しかし、大きな違いは「different than」の後ろに文（SV）を直接置くことができる点です。
It was a little different than I expected.
思ってたのと少し違った。
これを「different from」で言い換えるとこうなります。
It was a little different from what I expected.
いずれも意味的には同じです。
文法的に「from」の後ろには名詞節を置く必要があるので、「different from what SV」の形になります。
また、「It was a little different than what I expected.」のように、「different than what SV」の形も実際に使われています。
ただし、以上のような「different than」の用法は主にアメリカ英語で、イギリス英語ではあまり出てきません。

他にも、代名詞や副詞句を置くことができます。
