英語で「初めて～します」の言い方

「初めて～します」や「～するのは初めてです」を英語で言うには、いくつかの表現方法があります。

4つの表現方法

・This is my first time +動詞のing または to+動詞の原形

・This is the first time I've ever +過去分詞

・文末に for the first time

・I've never +過去分詞+before

次は、例文を交えながら使い方を見ていきます。

This is my first time +動詞のingの使い方

例文

This is my first time watching this movie.

→この映画を見るのは初めてです。

This is my first time doing this.

→これをやるのは初めてです。

This is my first time talking about it.

→初めて（そのことについて）話します。

このように、「This is my first time +動詞のing」の形で「～するのは初めて」と言うことができます。

「～するのは」と具体的に言いたい場合以外は、「This is my first time.」だけでも「初めてです」になります。

This is my first time to +動詞の原形の使い方

「This is my first time to +動詞の原形」は、意味的には「This is my first time +動詞のing」とほぼ同じです。

しかし、動詞のing型の方が使用頻度は高いです。

例文

This is my first time to go to Tokyo.

→東京に行くのは初めてです。

This is my first time to eat this.

→初めてこれを食べます。

This is my first visit to Canada.

→カナダを訪れるのは初めてです。

※visitは名詞で「first visit（初めての訪問）」

This is the first time I've ever +過去分詞の使い方

「This is the first time I've ever +過去分詞」は完了形が使われています。

意味的には上記2つの表現方法と同じですが、「これまで～したことがない（ので初めてです）」という完了形のニュアンスが含まれています。

例文

This is the first time I've ever had this.

→これを初めて食べます。

This is the first time I've ever been here.

→ここに来るのは初めてです。

This is the first time I've ever seen this.

→これ初めて見た。

このように、「This is the first time I've ever +過去分詞」の形で「（今までやったことがないので）初めて～します / ～するのは初めてです」を表現することができます。

文末に for the first time を置く

I've never +過去分詞+before の使い方

「I've never +過去分詞+before」の意味は「これまで～したことがない」です。

日本語でも「～したことがないよ＝初めてだよ」の意味で使うことがあるのと一緒です。

例えば、ある女性と会った時。

「I’ve never met her before.」と言えば「これまで彼女に会ったことがない = 初めて会う」という表現方法になります。

例文

I’ve never eaten this before.

→これまで食べたことがありません。

→初めてこれを食べます。

I've never been here before.

→ここに来たことがありません。

→ここに来たのは初めてです。

I've never seen anything like this before.

→このようなものを見たことがありません。

This is the first for me の意味と使い方

他にも「This is the first for me.」という言い方もあります。

意味的には「This is my first time.」と同じで、「初めてです」や「初めて体験します」の意味になります。

例えば、今まで食べたことがない料理が出てきた時。

「This is the first for me.」と言えば、「初めて食べます」という意味で使うことができます。

「初めてでした」と過去について言及する場合は「This was the first for me.」や「It was the first for me.」と過去形になります。

相手に「初めてですか？」と聞きたい時

逆に相手に聞きたい時は、これまでに紹介した文を疑問文にします。
