be behind on の2つの意味
「be behind on」には「（仕事など）～が遅れている」と「～の支払いが滞る」という2つの意味があります。
いずれも behind の「後ろに / 後方に」という意味から、仕事や支払いの終わりを後ろに追いやっているイメージです。
「be behind on（遅れている）」の例文
I'm behind on my work.
→仕事が遅れている。
I'm behind on my homework.
→宿題が遅れている。
I'm behind on my housekeeping.
→家事が遅れている（やるべき家事が溜まっている）。

「be behind in」になると、「～に後れを取る」や「～が遅れる」という意味になります。
in の代わりに with が使われることがあります。
また、「fall behind in」の形で「（学習などが）遅れる」になります。

→彼女は世論調査で後れを取っている。
It is said that Japan is behind in digitization.
→日本はデジタル化が遅れていると言われている。
